Since its inception in the early 1970s, the Can-Am brand has been synonymous with off-road performance. Born as a partnership between Canadian and Californian designers and engineers, with R&D and testing support from Motocross world champion Jeff Smith, Can-Am’s origins were rooted in the development of high-performance, championship-winning enduro and motocross bikes powered by Rotax engines. 

Can-Am vanished in the late 80s after its parent company, Canada’s Bombardier, Inc., transitioned away from off-road recreation and began focusing its resources on the transit equipment and aircraft manufacturing industries. But in 2003, Bombardier Recreational Products, Inc. (BRP) was formed, setting the stage for the triumphant return of the Can-Am brand. BRP introduced the Outlander All-Terrain Vehicle in 2004 and, soon after, bestowed the Can-Am name upon its full line of off-road and on-road vehicles, which now includes ATVs, side-by-sides, and three-wheel roadsters.

The Can-Am Outlander ATV has come a long way since its debut, with the advent of Can-Am’s Visco-Lok and Visco-4Lok differential locking technologies, Intelligent Throttle Control, improvements to suspension and ergonomics, and the famed power and reliability of the Rotax engine.
