KTM 690 Enduro
What many dual-sport riders and those who really enjoy adventure touring claim they want—basically a woods-ready dirtbike with nothing more than lights and a license plate—and what they actually buy are two different things. Once you’ve ridden a hard-core, take-no-prisoners street-legal off roader like the KTM 690 Enduro, you’ll either never be back or you’ll never consider a KLR or DR650 again. The 690 Enduro is to a KLR what a Randall Model 3 Hunter is to a butter knife. Or maybe a spork.
KTM leverages every millimeter of its motocross and enduro expertise to give the 690 Enduro the edge it needs. The 693cc thumper pounds out torque across the range but still pulls hard up top; it quivers and quakes and makes angry noises until you run it out of gas or hit the kill switch. It wants to roost, anywhere and everywhere. The wheelbase is short, the seat is high and long and thin, and you will hurt for the first 10 hours you ride this amazing machine. But you’ll pull away from your KLR friends like they’d lost the chain, and the BMW GS buddies will look like they’ve tried to keep up in a Winnebago.
As much as the 690 Enduro evokes the fantasy of riding a motocrosser-good bike that you can legally ride on the street, it’s still can do the weekend adventure camp ride, so it’ll benefit from better lighting. If we all lived in Alaska and rode in late June, it wouldn’t be a problem. But some of us ride in the Pacific Northwest in December, so adding a set of DENALI motorcycle driving lights will be right approach.
Depending on how far you want to go with illumination, you can start with any of DENALI’s Articulating Bar Light Mounts and add any of the LED auxiliary lights, which include adventure-ready S4 (four LEDs in a very compact housing), the highly flexible D4 (four more powerful LEDs in a housing that allows for different lens optics and colors), up to the intensely bright DENALI D7, whose 14 total CREE LEDs pounce out more than 12,000 lumens yet consume just 10 amps. Like all DENALI LED motorcycle lights, these (along with the DM, the D2, and the DR1) come with heavy-duty, vinyl-clad wiring harnesses and DrySeal submersible connectors. Because where you want to take your KTM 690 Adventure, you’re going to get wet.
