The Nissan Xterra was introduced as a front-engine, truck-based compact SUV in the early 2000s. The new Nissan X-Terra has not been available in the US Market since the 2015 model year. The only SUV available to the US is the beefy Armada, Nissan no longer sells a body-on-frame SUV in North America. The future of the US market version of the bigger X-Terra is still up in the air, but with the introduction of 3rd-row seating, it would make sense for the US.
The new 2021 X-Terra, only available for the Middle East market, is a larger SUV featuring 3rd row seating with a fresh design inside and out that sets it apart from the old 2nd generation X-Terra. Powering the X-Terra is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder rated at 165 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque paired with a seven-speed transmission. The standard X-Terra is equipped with a two-wheel drive, and 4WD is only available only for the top of the line trim. The 4WD X-Terra offers a four-wheel lock, a limited-slip differential, and an electronic locking rear differential. A great feature for those who like going off-road is Nissan’s Hill Descent Control and Hill Start Assist Systems.
