Aprilia Dorsoduro

At the risk of making too much fun of too many of Aprilia’s model names, can’t you imagine the Supermoto-styled Dorsoduro 900’s name meaning some kind of weird Italian rodeo? Or perhaps a dance that requires shiny footwear. No? We’re trying to figure it out, too, but there’s not really too much to consider with the Dorso.

Aprilia continues to build the Dorsoduro as a limber, light, elemental supermoto with a street fixation. Put 17-inch cast wheels with high-end street rubber at either end of a short, narrow chassis and stuff a free-breathing, DOHC V-twin in the middle, all bristling with torque and personality. Tell your local tire store to stock three rears for every front, since you’ll be wheelying from every stop, up every hill, through every parking lot. You can’t help it, blame the Dorso.

Supermoto-bred motorcycles are the ultimate urban commuters: light, limber, thin enough to jet through traffic that you’ll hardly notice the cagers and their cell phones. But you can make it better for those roles with some creative lighting help from DENALI. Because the Dorsoduro 900’s fork is beautifully exposed, a DENALI clamp mount will let you place a set of DENALI LED motorcycle lights right where they want to be, a good view of the road and far enough from the turnsignals that you don’t swamp them with all that CREE-made illumination. Maybe you want something a little trimmer, then you want the DENALI DRL kit, which fits a row of six LED in each module (two per kit) that you can locate on the Dorso’s front fender or even tuck into the radiator area; the DRLs put light on the ground near the bike, which is good for seeing road debris at night, but they also cast enough light forward to alert other drivers of your presence. (Considering how much the Dorsoduro 900 wants to wheelie, you might want to aim them down, just saying…)

Every motorcycle in the city needs a good horn, and so you’ll want the DENALI SoundBomb, which can be fitted as a one-piece unit or with the compressor and acoustic unit separated by a durable vinyl hose; that’s the SoundBomb Split. With those you get 120 decibels of “hey I’m here” acoustic illumination, which goes a long way toward keeping the Camrys out of your grill. If you’re good, you can honk and wheelie at the same time. The kids in the Camry will love that.
