Originally designed as a compact off-road SUV built to compete with the Jeep CJ-5 and International Harvester Scout, the first Ford Bronco hit the market in 1966. Through five generations, it was eventually replaced in 1996 by the Ford Expedition, after the market no longer desired a two-door, compact SUV. Luckily, that’s no longer the case.
The Ford Bronco is one of those iconic vehicles, often used to exemplify the popular American SUV. This two-door, short-wheelbase compact SUV was a pioneer in the off-road market. A fun, all-around Ford that tackles the trails. Enter the 2021 Ford Bronco. After a 25-year absence the Bronco returns with a fresh package and new technology, but with the ever-lasting classic look and feel.
With two- and four-door variants available, the new Bronco still carries it’s off-road capability with it. It features 11.6 in (295 mm) ground clearance and Dana axles, with front and rear electronic differentials both user-lockable via dashboard switches. Drivers can toggle between 4WD Low, 4WD High, 4WD Automatic, and 2WD High (rear-wheel drive), without leaving their seat.
The 2021 Bronco features the 2.3-liter turbocharged EcoBoost inline-four standard. It produces a healthy 270 hp and 310 lb⋅ft of torque.The optional 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 makes 310 hp and 400 lb⋅ft of torque. Technological advances include the Trail Turn Assist, which utilizes the torque-vectoring system to help the vehicle turn in tight offroad corners. That’s a major off-road feature from an OEM.
Despite all the new upgrades, every model Bronco can benefit from improved lighting. From everyday use to off-road or weekend camping, the Bronco will require additional lighting to get the job done right.
