KTM 1290 Super Adventure Lighting & Accessories
KTM’s 1290 Super Adventure is the big daddy of its adventure-touring lineup, succeeded from the 1190 Adventure introduced back in 2013. The 1290 Super A came out as a kind of Austrian version of BMW’s R1200GS Adventure, with standard hard luggage (in the U.S. at least), a very large and wind-cheating fairing, and a massive 7.9-gallon fuel tank. It had every high-tech offering on the menu at the time it was introduced as a 2015 model: heated grips, heated seats, full traction control and ABS with off-road modes, ride by wire and ride modes, and KTM’s first use of semi-active electronic suspension. (The 1190 Adventure introduced electronic settings on the suspension but these were a set-once system and not active, as they were on the 1290.) Then KTM split the models, turning the Super Adventure into the Super Adventure T, introducing a 1290 Super Adventure R with dirt-sized wheels and a Super Adventure S with cast wheels.
Don’t worry, we’ve kept track and have a lot of products for the entire line of KTM 1290 Adventures. The big one is CANsmart, which enables control of four independent, definable circuits through the KTM’s existing handlebar switches, either the early versions on the 1290 Super Adventure T to the latest iterations on the 1290 Super Adventure R and S. Here are just some of the things CANsmart can do: independently control two set of lights; key those lights to the bike’s stock high beam so they can be run brighter with the high beams on; flash to pass, where the lights pulse after you blip the high-beam switch; cancel with turnsignal, which turns off the corresponding auxiliary light when you turn your turn signal so auxiliary lights don’t overpower your turnsignal; and special braking features with the B6 tail light installed. CANsmart also has “dongle functionality,” which enables additional features in the ABS control unit and the ECU and remembers settings removing the need to reset the ABS and MTC every time you restart the bike.
Moreover, DENALI has a collection of bike-specific LED light mounts, a special horn mount that puts a powerful SoundBomb horn where it’s totally out of the way but easily heard. Plus, the KTM 1290 Super Adventure, in all its guises, is a good candidate for DENALI’s other conspicuity products, from the DRL lights that can be mounted to the fender to the T3 Modular Switchback Signal Pods.
