KTM 990 Super Duke

KTM 990 Super Duke isn’t really old enough to count as a vintage bike (your mileage may vary, of course). Having received its last update in 2012, the bike disappeared from its manufacturers catalog in 2014 in favor of the 1290 Super Duke R.

Some bikes around this age bracket fall into that unfortunate position where they’re not old enough to be vintage, but they’re old enough to be almost obsolete due to advances in technology. Not the KTM 990 Super Duke, though. When it was introduced, the 999cc, 125-horse beast was called the most fun superbike ever.

The bike might not be produced anymore, but the fun hasn’t gone anywhere. The 990 Super Duke is an incredibly lightweight machine (only about 400 pounds) for a superbike that rips through streets with agility and grace. Sure, it might not have all the fancy modern gadgets and riding aids. But who needs that when the bike itself is pure perfection on pavement?

The Super Duke’s four-stroke engine accelerates fast and can reach ridiculous top speeds at about 150 mph. Its roughly five-gallon tank can go for 140 miles with one fill, so if you can put up with the admittedly aggressive riding position, the street fun won’t end anytime soon.

But being an older machine, there are some things on the 990 Super Duke that could stand to be brought up to modern standards. LED lights weren’t common during its lifetime, so replacing the headlight gives you a good safety boost. DENALI M7 and M5 Headlight Modules provide four times as much illumination as halogen lights and slot effortlessly into the existing headlight housing.

Auxiliary driving lights and ditch lights are vital when gobbling down miles on dark roads at breakneck speed. Our D7 Light Pods cast an incredibly bright, 15,000-lumen beam to pierce the darkness ahead. Or in the ditch – our Articulating Bar Clamps grip securely to your fenders and forks and their rotating mounting shelf lets you angle the D7 any way you wish.

For equal performance but slightly less power, you can also consider the D4 and S4 Light Pods. All these light feature DENALI DataDim Technology that makes it possible for you to control their intensity with your OEM high beam switch. Their aggressive housings also look right at home on the Super Duke.

It’s not enough that you see the road, though. You must also be clearly visible to others. DENALI’s B6 Brake Light, together with the DRL Visibility Pods, give your Super Duke the safety boost you need. And when you need to honk your horn to wake up a distracted driver, DENALI SoundBomb’s 120 decibels make sure they hear you coming.

The 990 Super Duke might be approaching a veteran’s age, but it still performs like a bike in its prime. With DENALI accessories, you can safely enjoy Super Duke fun while waiting for it to become a true vintage bike.
