Harley-Davidson Electra Glide
The term “iconic” gets thrown around a lot in motorcycling, especially with certain American brands and certain specific models looking for that extra little bit of cred. But the Harley-Davidson Electra Glide is like Bruce Springsteen walking into a club to see an E-Street cover band: He’s the real deal and everyone knows it. Same for the Electra Glide, whose “batwing” fairing, sleek silhouette, and standard hard saddlebags helped define the “bagger” outline for a generation. Today’s Electra Glide is undeniably technically adept even as its styling recalls an earlier era. The fuel-injected, 107-cubic-inch V-twin makes more power than even hopped up Harleys of the past, yet runs smoother and cooler, which is what the touring rider really wants.
And while Harley has improved the Electra Glide’s lighting, there’s more to be had by dipping into the DENALI catalog. You can start by replacing the Electra Glide’s standard headlight with the DENALI M7, which is a full-LED, direct replacement for the 7-inch halogen, and includes DOT-approved LED high and low beams as well as a full-ring LED halo light that can be used as a daytime running light or for additional visibility to traffic coming at you. The M7 comes with plug & play wiring for H4 bulbs and a simple installation to enable the halo light.
Harley-Davidson was an early adopter of CAN bus technology, which makes the CANsmart possible. With CANsmart, you can control two sets of LED driving lights, a powerful SoundBomb horn, and a B6 tail light (either singly or in pairs) right from the Electra Glide’s stock hand controls. Features include flash-to-pass, flashing of the LED lights when you trigger the horn, and a feature then turns off the auxiliary motorcycle light on the same side as the active turn signal, a feature useful to keep the blinker from getting swamped by the driving light. Not only that, CANsmart makes installation of DENALI’s LED motorcycle lights as easy as can be, with pre-wired DrySeal connectors and the ability to control the high-current demands of the SoundBomb horn directly, no need for an extra relay or wiring. With CANsmart, you can turn an all-day installation into something you can complete before lunch.
Finally, DENALI makes a series of mounts that enable you to install LED auxiliary lights to the crash bar, or you can replace the existing fog/driving lights with much more powerful, higher-optic DENALI LED lights for more confidence on your next tour or to outshine your other Harley-riding friends at the next ride.
